Owning one Dales Pony invariably leads to another.....those were the first words we heard when we spoke of buyng our first Dales! It was true.
Highclose is based in East Lancashire, near Burnley and Caphouse in West Yorkshire near Wakefield.
Over the last decades the two studs have worked closely together many times and with similar interests and ethics now have joint ownership of a number of ponies. We only do a little bit of showing these days and certainly not as much as we used to, but are passionate about these animals and aim to breed quality, useful, true to type ponies.
All the ponies are kept as naturally as possible at each of our sites, remaining unshod if not ridden. They are fed on grass during Summer and home-produced hay or haylage...and if Winter allows, they remain outside. Both sites are "blessed" with ex-open cast land and in the harshest of weather we bring the ponies inside, giving daily turnout whenever possible, or onto hardcore yard areas. The ponies can of course cope in all conditions, but for it is for the sake of the land we bring them off, protecting fields for the future.
It's not all about ponies!
Highclose is also a family farm, running flocks of breeding sheep and rearing young cattle.
In 2016, a small flock of Dutch Spotted Sheep, very new to this country were introduced to run alongside a pedigree Lleyn flock. Lleyn numbers have now been reduced and the Spotties are increasing. See the Highclose Sheep page for more information.
We also offer a garden and site maintenance service locally, all year round. Clients include pubs and local businesses who need their carparks and grounds kept neat and tidy. Contact Michael on 07979 596714 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
